Midweek’s Blender!

Middle-week’s madness? Don’t worry! We are here to help you with that! Well we won’t give you money or drugs… but we will give you our recommendations

TV recommendation: House of Cards

Seriously? Series Lie!

Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) is not a common politic. He is like the devil; He makes whatever is necessary to accomplish his goals. When the election for the president took place he was told that he was gonna be the Secretary of State… but some people betrayed him and left him as a congressman from Democrats and House Majority whip. The problem is that he is hungry of power and decided not just to take revenge… but to become the next President.

While he escalates, he commits atrocious crimes that include Murder, felony, and blackmail… a group of journalist are after him but he won’t give up or give them a chance to expose him, after all, they are just a little part of his problems because as he goes further and further the need of power makes every rival dangerous.

The series is worth it just for the way Frank talks to the audience (he treats you as his apprentice) and this quote is pure gold “ There are two kinds of pain. The sort of pain that makes you strong. Or useless pain. The sort of pain that’s only suffering. I have no patience for useless things. Moments like this require someone who will act. To do the unpleasant thing. The necessary thing… [puts the dog out of its misery] There, no more pain.” And this… describes Frank. Also in the series Kate Mara and Robin Wright. Haven’t I mentioned? Some episodes are directed by David Fincher.

Season 1 and 2 available on Netflix. Watch it Now!

This is a must!

Nidhogg is a game with a pretty simple thematic: kill your rival and do it again and again and again… keep doing that and go further until you get eaten by a giant … worm with a horn, isn’t that cool?

In Nidhogg you must defeat your opponent in a swordfight and run forward until you reach the next screen, do that 3 times and you win! but if your enemy kills you, you can’t keep moving forward and you must kill him before he reaches his last screen.

The combat is simple and complex at the same time: you have 3 stances which are high, medium and low, each one with their own pros and cons. You can also jump, kick, roll and even throw your sword, but this one will let you vulnerable if you miss. Use your environment and trick your enemy to achieve victory!

Visually, it may not look so good, but I truly like the art style, and it doesn’t makes the experience less fun. So grab a few friends and organize tournaments, or play just for the sake of it, you won’t regret it.

Sounds good!

The binding of Isaac OST

This game is really messed up: Isaac’s mother, driven crazy by “god” tries to kill him because he “he has become corrupted by sin”; Isaac tries to escape from her mother through a trap door that leads to the basement, but monsters, deformed kids, demons and other nightmarish creature await for him, as he goes deeper and deeper on his nightmare, while the only weapon he has are his tears… Sounds great, huh?

Anyways, it’s soundtrack reflects how dark and bizarre this game is. Danny Baranowsky (also the creator of “Super meatboy” soundtrack) once again surprises us with his brilliant music. The music gets darker and darker as we keep going down on the game, reflecting how the levels and the enemies become more and more twisted.

You can buy the full soundtrack here for only $0.99 USD.

This book… This book…The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Moving. Charming.

Bruno is a german 9-year-old boy who lives with his happy family. He is worried just for his toys and to have adventures. The plot begins when he and his family moves to a new place, far from the city because of his father’s job. The argument is that this is developed in Auschwitz… and his father is a Nazi commander. They moved to an Extermination Camp.

Bruno wasn’t aware of the situation and as he plays he goes every day to play in the surroundings of his home and one day near the fence, he met a sad child dressing a striped pyjama, Shmuel. They became good friends but no one of they knows that the time for Shmuel is short and as the time goes on… they put themselves in danger. Charming. Moving and extremely brilliant book from John Boyne. This kind of books make you have hope on human race; because you will learn about friendship, commitment… and hate.
