Thursbook: Paper Towns

Third book of John Green that is reviewed in this section! It is not a secret that TwoGamed is addicted to John Green’s books. But what do we think about this novel and soon to become a movie?

Quentin Jacobsen is the main character of the novel from the creative author John Green. In this novel, Quentin has a similar Role than Miles in Looking for Alaska; he is a simple boy from Florida, with a simple life and waiting for something that will change everything. And that happens when, one night his crush and neighbor Margo Roth Spiegelman appears in his room dressed as a ninja and invites him to go on an adventure.

After Margo Roth Spiegelman convinced Quentin, he takes his parent’s car (it is also his car on weekends) in the middle of the night and goes with her around the town to complete 10 tasks… one better than the other. Margo was once, when they were younger, very close to Quentin but after they saw a dead man on a near park… something touched them and the relationship was never the same, Quentin had a crush on her but, to be honest she is described like a girl that breaks every heart available; sexy, smart, adventurer and cool.

Margo Roth Spiegelman told Quentin the purpose of their adventure: that night they were after revenge for people that hurt her… starting with Margo Roth Spiegelman’s ex-boyfriend, reason: He was cheating on her with Margo Roth Spiegelman’s best friend, Becca… You must not miss this adventures, simply hilarious.

That night ended with them hanging around Seaworld and and with Quentin feeling so happy for being with his crush. He. Having a moment with her. With Margo Roth Spiegelman.

The next day (well, just a couple of hours later) Quentin was excited to find Margo Roth Spiegelman and the victims of that night, talk about what happened and became closer to Margo Roth Spiegelman. But she wasn’t there… actually, she didn’t appear the whole week. The night of the adventure Margo Roth Spiegelman told Quentin something about a paper town and how she was a paper girl… maybe… it was a clue. Maybe. And maybe Margo Roth Spiegelman left clues that only Quentin could follow… clue for finding her… or her dead body.

Everybody knew that Margo Roth Spiegelman was such a character and one day she would disappear… but Quentin wasn’t prepared for that. It wasn’t possible, she couldn’t leave him… could she?

Paper Towns stands like a novel full of retrospectives in life, about how a person sees what it wants to see and how fighting for people can make a difference.

For TwoGamed this was an awesome novel, especially the last chapters and how the adventure of Quentin… I won’t spoil you; read it.

The observation of the TwoGamed crew is that there is a major MAJOR similitude between Margo Roth Spiegelman and Alaska Young and between Quentin and Miles from Looking for Alaska. For us, this novel could be a parallel universe between them. Do you have any opinion about it?

Special thanks to Alex J. Hughes for the recommendation. Check his awesome blog and his own review of this book.

  1. Thanks guys! Appreciate the shout out and enjoyed your review. I like the point you made about how fighting for someone can make a difference. I think that’s a really important takeaway from the book. I also loved the last couple of chapters and the way it left things. Those are my favorite endings.
